Questions about reports
- Can I change the view here?
- Yes. Switch between the year and month views, flip the chart between bar, Sankey and waterfall, change the year, month or display currency - it all works. The figures recompute from a fixed sample month rather than from an account.
- How far back do reports go?
- As far back as your data. Historical months are kept as precomputed rollups so a year view loads quickly, while the current month is always calculated live from your actual transactions - which is why today's coffee shows in this month's total immediately.
- Are the forecast months real data?
- No, and the app is explicit about it. The yearly chart projects the remaining months from your recent pace, but those bars are drawn with a distinct striped fill and labelled as a forecast. Every other figure and flow diagram is built only from months that actually happened.
- What is the difference between month-over-month and month-to-date?
- Month-over-month compares two complete months. Month-to-date compares the same stretch of each, so on the tenth it compares your first ten days against the previous month's first ten. Comparing a third of a month against a whole one is the fastest way to convince yourself spending has collapsed when it has not.
- What do the Sankey and waterfall views show?
- The waterfall starts from income and subtracts each category in turn, so you watch the balance fall step by step. The Sankey shows income streams on the left flowing into spending categories on the right, sized by how much travels down each path. Try the chart toggle above.
- Can reports mix currencies?
- Yes. Every amount converts to your chosen display currency using cached daily rates before it is charted, so a month containing several currencies still totals correctly and compares fairly against other months.
